I find myself really enjoying the steel frame bike I've been riding. I've even toyed with the notion of taking off the brifters and going with downtube shifters.
Brifters are probably better for the vast majority of riders, but if you started cycling with downtube shifters (yeeeks, brifters have been around 20 yrs or so), there is a certain satisfaction with clean, no-look friction shifts and of course the nostalgia of it all.
Me, I've always been 'against the grain' a bit and walked into many a boss' office with recommendations, often to be told to 'go pound sand'. Not sure if vintage bicycles are better than an affair (never tried an affair), but I've been told the affairs always cost much more.
