I found the original seat --- and posted the bike in the BMX category on the local Buy 'n' Sell.
I got a nice condescending reply from a Canadian Tire employee who offered to take it off my hands for very little money -- and who said that the
only reason he was interested
at all was because he was a Canadian Tire employee.
I politely told him that he was under no obligation to do me any favours.
Anyway, I did attract one of those people you mentioned who is apparently "sentimental about Supercat from his childhood" and who is willing to give it a good home in exchange for some portraits of famous Canadians.
