If you think the hub is malfunctioning because it doesn't make the sound you expect, don't worry as long as the hub functions properly. Also don't do anything to it without reading and following the manufacturer's instructions.
Thanks. Just talked to a powertap rep. He said using chain lube is fine and should make the hub louder.
