A Dremel is a very useful tool to have.

I hate it when seatposts get gouged up. Usually that happens if they are a tight fit, and are forcibly rotated as they are raised and lowered. I prefer my seatposts to be not so tight a fit, so that they slide easily in and out of the seat tube, with grease. I'd file or ream out a seatpost if needed.
