You probably didn't grasp the fullness of the analogy between these two activities, because there are parallels.

People own/operate bicycles for:

- recreation (solo, family, groups)
- practical living (LCF or commuting)
- competing
- collecting/admiring

People own firearms similarly:

- recreation
- practical living
- competing
- collecting

Just as you can't buy speed on a bicycle, you can't buy skill with a firearm. You have to put in thousands of hours of grunt work to improve, even if you possess innate abilities.
