I put the Habanero up on the stand to figure out why the RD shifting is acting sluggish. I was hoping for some crud in the under-BB cable guide that was interfering with the action. Nope. Next, I peeled back the hood cover and saw a few tell-tale strands of a cable that was in the process of fraying/breaking.
Luckily it was early enough in the process that I was able to extricate the fraying cable without too much hassle, and threaded a new cable on and now the shifting is flawless.
That Ultegra 6700 design is crap for those of us that ride a lot. Sure, a fair-weather weekend rider will probably get several years of service on theirs. But I am going through 2 cables per year which means the cable is only lasting 2500-3000 miles. Yes we have a lot of rollers so I probably shift a lot more than the average rider, but this is still a crap design IMO.
/end rant
