I'm not so sure it will, brother. I've been trying to work out my 9 speed indexing for a while now.

I think it's the difference between the road shifters and mtn rear derailleur. It's generally accepted that they're supposed to be compatible up to 9 speeds but Shimano doesn't recommend it and on my 9 speed I've found it to be finicky as all hell. I'm running dura ace 9 speed bar ends with an XT M772 Rear derailleur ( a brand new derailleur, mind you.)

Is your Deore RD A M592 or M591?

I've gone through a new chain, cassette, cables, derailleur, 2 shops say the hanger is straight, etc...

My options now are to a.) run in friction mode b.) throw on a Sora3500 9 spd road derailleur on, or c.) upgrade to 10 spd.

Now, people may pile on and say it works for them but I can point to many examples stating otherwise. My own personal experience says you're heading towards a dead end. It might be fine for a little while, but you'll likely have more problems in a few hundred miles.

On my other touring bike I upgraded to an all road 10 sp setup: Microshift 10 barends, with a 105 5701 road derailleur. I've had zero issues in the past 1200 miles.
