Yea I agree with Hipcycler too. It is a natural progression. If you are racing as a junior now and kicking ass then soon people will realize your potential. If you are born a natural and that potential becomes apparent then I feel as though you owe it to yourself to take the plunge and do the very best that you can do. For me I always rode a bike as a kid and loved the sport of cycling but then got away from it for years. After feeling week and having knee problems I started riding again. One thing led to another and I started cross racing then road racing. Plain and simply it's fun. To have a road totally closed to traffic and take corners at high speed is nothing a recreational rider will ever experience.
Now to say that you want all of a sudden to become a pro racer is a bit like me saying, "gee I’m 35 and bored in my job I think I will become an Astronaut." It’s just not realistic though you were probably being hypothetical. I don’t think it is selfish either. I train about 8 hours a week and race competitively in my category, that’s not a lot to ask. If you are a pro then sure you will be on your bike lots more but then that’s your job at that point too so what’s the difference?
