I had a similar surprise a month ago. I had purchased a Fuji Professional for what I thought was a really good deal. Two weeks later, I went into Performance looking for colored bar tape and saw they had a 4 day promotion that effectively lowered the price of the bike by over $400. So, I asked about their stated 90 day price match guarantee, and whoppee! they honored it. So, I felt the same thing you did - kinda like getting free money.
Now, I'm ashamed to admit that they've since gotten all that money back from me in the form of upgrades and accessories, but that's an entirely separate matter
Whoa. $400. That's impressive! I don't feel that I cheated anyone out of anything, nor got any LBS person in trouble. Somewhere, some advertising guy who puts these ads together either couldn't find a picture of a Finest and stuck the Newest in there thinking that no one would know the difference, or just flat out didn't care. $50 is not $50,000 - it's not going to make Performance blink an eye. Especially considering how much stuff I've bought there already in the past few weeks. And especially since I'm just going to turn around and buy a computer from them, so they're getting that money back.
I think they're kind of shady to begin with...I called a few days ago and asked how much it would be to install a computer. $12 the guy said. Then I asked yesterday again, another guy said $15. Then I asked another guy, and he said $20!!! Why is the pricing so inconsistent? I told all 3 that I wanted the Cateye Astrale 8 with cadence, but I get three different prices? Odd. I also asked a guy about "carbon dioxide pumps", and he asked "what's carbon dioxide?" Another person in the store overheard us and burst out laughing. The guy really didn't know what carbon dioxide was. "I've heard of it, but I don't know what it is," was his reasoning. Maybe he missed 5th grade photosynthesis and respiration.
