Well, due to the heavy flywheel you don't have to provide smooth power to the pedals like you do on a real bike. This corrupts your pedal stroke. I'm not uncoordinated. I'm one of those riders who climbs at a cadence of 50-95 with no perceptible upper body motion. On my road bike, I'm only comfortable up to ~135 cadence, but in spin class I can ride at ~155. No bouncing. What I'm sayin'. I'm 70 now, used to be better back in the day.
Not that spin bikes are a waste of time. It's a good workout. Did it for years. But I think if you focus on spin biking, you lose something compared to focusing on your road bike. Now I ride my rollers in preference.
Not everyone gives a **** about their pedal stroke, but the elite LD racers with whom I've been fortunate enough to ride have no upper body motion. That's due to their pedal stroke.
And what makes you think "no perceptible upper body motion" is relevant to cycling? Who climbs like that? Not Merckx, Lemond, Pantani, Froome, Contador, Quintana...no one I can think of. So really, what suggests to you that motionless upper body climbing is even a thing, let alone important?
