I agree. I think there was a perception that if you wanted very high end, above a certain level, it better be American or European to be "taken seriously." And I think fewer Japanese bikes were brought here, too. I don't know which is the cause and which is the effect, though.
One thing I like about Fujis is that they avoided Shimano components more than any other brand. They had many (but not all) models that had not a single Shimano nut or bolt.
Did Fuji belong to the JEX group? I know JEX was a components group, but I thought I read that some Japanese bike companies also belonged to the 2 components groups.
