New time trial bike question

OK

This is going to sound insane --- A 3oo+ pound dude wanting a TT bike, -- but i do anyway. My local club has a 10 mile TT series in the spring, and its a great fitness test -- plus gets me back "racing" without having to ride in a pack or getting dropped in the first 5 minutes

My current road bike is, -- well - its a road bike, --- so adding clip ons to it is not happening due to hip angle in relation to my belly -- i took a short spin on a buddie's TT bike that was very obviously too large for me , but i noted the steeper seat angle put me further forward and opened up the hip/belly relationship so basically it was just much easier to ride than a road bike with clip ons

My question for those that do or have done is do you go with as close to the same size frameset as your roadie as you can get, or do you go with a bike with a bit longer top tube due to sitting more forward on the bike to begin with?

I need to ride some more bikes in my size range to see, but sadly , i dont know a shop around with a real demo program other than just cruising through a parking lot

And yes, i know i can easilly just ride a TT on my road bike, but taking in a couple of miles on a real TT bike was eye opening
