I enjoy Thanksgiving Day food for the most part, but steak > turkey. I'd also say Chinese > turkey.
We have been doing fried chicken for Thanksgiving with a group of 20-30 folks for about 15 years now. We still have smoked and/or fried turkey and stuffing, cranberries and such, but the fried chicken is the reason for being there. Professionally fried, of course. What a nice change of pace. We deprive ourselves of it all year long and just have it to celebrate having made another year on Thanksgiving. The trick is to find a chicken place open on Thanksgiving. Fortunately there is a supermarket that opens for the morning in case folks have forgotten things. There is a Church's concession in the store, and it opens half day along with the store. Otherwise we would be SOL.
