In related news, during the ride some talk turned to Shimano/Sram/Campy. Discussion seemed to align on Sram is light, but breaks, Campy is good, but weird and spendy, and Shimano is sort of the best blend...
Later in the ride a Shimano RD pulley failed and locked up the rear wheel of the bike just in front of me. No Sram bikes were harmed during the chaos that ensued.
Kudos for dodging the carnage. Those huge rides put me on high alert since there's often many sketchy riders that make things interesting. There's usually at least a few crashes resulting from dumb moves.
