A 32 is well beyond spec for your 9 speed (5503?) derailleur. However, in my experience it will sometimes work. As mentioned above, it depends on dropout and chainstay. If that's the gearing you want, try the cassette. If it doesn't work, get a 9 speed (important 9 not 10) mtb derailleur.
