We run into this all of the time on a local mountain that is pretty easy to get lost on. It is amazing to have someone who is lost argue about how to find their way. I have gotten to the point of smiling and wishing them good luck.
We once had a hiker ask us, "Which way down the mountain?" Um, it should be pretty obvious... It turns out he was really asking, "Is this the shortest way to the trail head?"
