Yeah I saw the first pic and didn't look at the other ones (dang cheap phone). But I actually only vaguely remember an ad in triathlete magazine. I do remember a review and ad on the carbon CIM. I'll try to find it and post it.
When I got out of the scene the new Era of carbon fiber was beginning. I particularly remember treks 5500 or something like that. I was envious and disappointed. The sport was moving beyond my financial priorities.
But before that time triathletes were willing to try anything and on the cutting-edge.
In particular, I was at a early season sprint triathlon in the dfw area. And I asked lance why wasn't he riding his kestrel? (The premier carbon fiber one piece frame) He said he had cracked the frame at the bottom bracket but it was in his garage. He was 17 and riding a steel bike he knew he couldn't break.
