My question is what should I do?

1.Try to buy a shorter stem and possibly smaller handlebars or anything else that might make the current frame work.
2. Sell the whole bike and buy a new one.

4. Something else?
Stock handle bar sizes migrated to XLwidth in the 2000's. Something about better handling and opening up the shoulders for more air uptake. On my newest touring bike I drank the koolaid and listened to fitter. My bike ended up with 46cm bars.

Why do my shoulders hurt while riding the bike for the first 6 months. Stem no... Hmm how about bars. Oh my old rig had 38 cm.

That was it.
