On NBC news this morning is a video clip of a road bike cyclist pedaling full tilt across a railroad track. The train beats him there by about two seconds. The cyclist hit the side of the train, and bounced off. He walked away. I am sure the bike did not fare so well. Please be aware of your surroundings when you cycle, and do not cycle with earphones on...(duh).

My maternal great-grandfather died in his car. There were no crossing gates at the crossing, in the 1950's. This also, indirectly reminded me of what I witnessed. I was at the rail crossing just outside of the town limits. I saw several cars go around the lowered gates, trying to beat the oncoming train. Thankfully, No IDIOT was hit. But it sure reminded me of my great-grandfather.
