A bicycle as a gift was... the "
bee knees" at one time wasn't it. But I don't think it's even on every kids "want" list. As a 1950's kid... a bicycle, a BB gun, an electric train where big items on my Christmas lists. Sort of like the movie a
Christmas Story. That idea... brings back old memories.
But then around 1959-60 Dad gave us kids a portable phonograph (record player) to share. And a favorite uncle (no kids of his own) gave us all our very own ultra-tiny, 8 transistor, AM radios. That was a big deal. And maybe the beginning of the era of devices over machines.
BTW... what was the names of those wars fought over oil?
Many kids still love getting a bike for Christmas or whenever.
