There's really no reason to think of it as a backwards sort of unit of measure. Some people think all the talk about mileage accumulated and elevation climbed is just folks trying to keep score. Frankly, that's really more what this Climbing Unit I'm suggesting would be about - roughly scoring rides, or ones achievements with a bit of character, not necessarily measuring them more or less precisely in a conventional way (which we know they aren't, anyhow). This score just happens to be quantitatively based.
