The best views are on the section that goes over Tioga are at Olmstead Point and at the top in Tuolumne meadows, so if you can't go over the top it might not be worth it. If you can't get to Olmstead Point itdefinitely wouldn't be worth it IMO.

I wouldn't take any route that causes you to miss Yosemite Valley or Sequoia. Not sure if that is a problem or not though.
