If you aren't really a detail oriented person, gearing can be confusing. But many people do lots of things without know the details of the inner workings and get along just fine. Just as long as you understand that the combination of the big gear in the back and the little gear in the front make the bike easier to pedal uphill and that the combination of the big gear in the front and the little gear in the back make the bike go fast downhill and that there are a whole bunch of steps in between, you can pedal in oblivious ignorance of the details.
On the other hand, some of us like to think about...and discuss... the details. If you don't like the details, no one is forcing you to type a response.
