What we're discussing here is related to the fact that factories made cheap steel rims, cheap cottered steel cranks, and many other cheap steel bike parts long after they'd stopped making really nice ones. By the late 1970's all steel rims were cheap, and most of them were junk. Few people on this list would know a high quality steel rim if they found it at a garage sale. That's too bad. They can be really nice.
