Ah, very clear now. The M1A is actually the civilian version of the M14, the NM is the match competition version. Very similar action to the M1 but shorter fore-end and gas tube mount.
And, I carried an M14 in Vietnam, back in 66...... LOL
Still a good shooter, even in military clothing....
