I come to you road bike folks because I respect your opinion, and, because I dislike asking the advice of the group that already has an affinity for the product in question (fixed gear folks)
I have been looking at road bikes lately, but the more I look at them, the more I want from them. Making sure it has all the right parts, the weights right, etc, I get really competitive really quickly and I'm trying to remember why I want a bike.
I'm just looking for something that I can ride to the gym instead of using the car, and then biking inside the gym...
I'll also use it for fun friend rides around town, and just stuff like that. I don't want to be king of the mountain on strava, I just want to be active and have fun. I'm also quite... financially adept. (college, baby)
Long story short: I was thinking about getting a fixed gear, less parts to worry about fixing or keeping maintained, less upfront cost, and long term cost really. It'll keep me away from being too competitive and spending money on upgrades and gear etc. I just don't want to look like a hipster tool

That being said, I quite prefer some of the simple fixed gear bike looks to the loud and label branded roadies.
Here's one I've been looking at for example. Can I get some advice? I'm not super fit, maybe after buying this and riding it for the next 2 years, once out of college I'll want a competitive road bike? or should I get a road bike now for some reason I don't see.
