30k miles is about 2 years of use. At that point the straps start to show wear, the pads are toasted, and the retention system usually begins to have issues.
The cost per hour rate is less than $.10 per hour. I'm okay with that.
I replaced my helmet 2 yrs ago and recently bought a set of new pads. Helmet feels good as new. Straps and retention system working just fine.
