I have a fitbit 1. For one of my 16 mile commutes, I put it on my shoe one day and started the activity timer. I compared the fit steps with the average cadence * moving time from my Garmin and was surprised at how similar they were. If the elliptical registers one step for each revolution, you can easily compute average cadence from time and steps.
