The fact that you find driving an irritation proves my point. To most drivers we're one more source of irritation, assuming they see us in the first place. I'm grateful if they extend me some common courtesy on the road, but I don't expect it.
I hope that you see signs of hope on the horizon as more people are starting to use bikes as transportation lately. Maybe you don't see the trend where you are yet. It's big here in NYC. A motorist calling cyclists an irritation is like calling red lights an irritation. For your own health, it's best not to notice them as irritations, because if you do, you'll be super irritated for a lot of the time. I don't feel I'm irritating most motorists I ride near. I really don't believe I am. I have become part of the landscape.
