Hmm, interesting and I wish I had known about those Shimano brakes. I had Avid SD-7 "V-brakes" on a Surly Cross Check and never got the fronts adequately and reliably squeel-free. Even toeing the pads almost absurdly didn't do it. I believe it was due to the rather loose fit of the arms on the brake mounting studs and there was no way to tighten them up.
I've had the same on some cheap Promax.
Tried "everything" incl pressing the bushings tighter axially.
Still squealing.
They're probably still lurking in shame in a parts bin somewhere.
