Yes, if you accidentally mar the patina of a brush finish frame you can reestablish it using abrasives. But there's no reason to start there by using abrasives when you don't need to. You can remove decals chemically without altering the brush pattern saving you the work.

Just because you can fix something is not a reason to make it necessary.
