Vintage Bikes for Triathlon

Hi all,

I want to enter a triathlon race and this is a BIG goal for me since I can barely swim, has 20 pounds of extra weight, father to a 18 mo. Anyway this is another threads’ topic. So, we all love bikes and don’t miss an oppurtunity to acquire another one. But I’m not in a hurry, I can use my road frame any time. I live in Turkey, and market for a vintage triathlon bike is VERY limited. I'm 36 years old, 5'10" (179cm) and 200lbs (90kg)

My tastes at bikes are vintage. I have a 96’ steel all Italian road bike with a real gruppo and I LOVE it. My triathlon bike will also be a vintage one, preferrably an Italian steel. But for this Look KG386 I can bend my “rules”. I will cost me some $400 for frameset and seat. Do you think this bike is a good start? Can I trust a 15 years old carbon frame? I mean, being a monocoque carbon frame, it was a new technology 2002 and I want this frame to race, not for a n+1 bike.

What about geometry? This bikes seat tube angle is only 72°, same as my road frame. I know that triathlon bikes keeps the running muscles “fresh” during riding, do you think this Look frame will give me that? At this point I want to emphasize that I won’t (and can’t) buy a super duper modern bike. If this bike will give me a similar ride with my Fondriest Megachrome frame; than I'll better save my money. My other option is a steel Pinarello-Prologo-geometry bikes like these:

Thanks in advance,

Firat.
