I don't have a problem with the ratio selection, but I do have a problem with the fact that both (which is to say at least two) of the new Shimano 6-spd FWs I have bought within the last few years had or eventually developed a thumping sound under pedaling. Not while coasting but while under moderate pressure. It may go away if the FW freewheels any amount. To me it indicates some wobble in how the pieces seat when the pawls are engaged.
