If it is always in phase with the cranks then it would be BB or pedal(s). In my case it is in phase with the rear wheel. Of course, pedaling backwards is the same as freewheeling for a bit in the sense that it changes the orientation of the FW parts. If it is the FW then either pedaling backwards or coasting could make it different when you start pedaling again.
