The bike happens to be a 2013 Giant Defy 1 equipped with a shimano "press fit" bb. Cranks are Shimano R565 compact 34/50.

It appears that it is not the same as a the BB30.

Park Tool lists Shimano Press Fit for the BBP1 and the BBT 90.3. The BBP1 appears only to be a bearing press tool and the BBT 90.3 is the tool needed for pressing out the bearings, but contains bushings for pressing bearings back in as well. Do I need both? It seems to me that I could probably get by with the BBT 90.3 and a threaded rod, but I will probably opt for getting the press tool as well.

Remaining un-answered question: Is the Loctite fix for other press fit BB's also a fix for the shimano press fit?

Yes, I have some annoying noise I believe is coming from the BB. I have tried just about everything imaginable (or recommended here on BF) and am well acquainted with the fact that the noise could be coming from somewhere other than the BB. The truth of the matter is that its time for my to dive into the BB anyway so I want to properly service it and eliminate it from the equation. I have the Shimano service procedure for the BB and will follow that (as I type this, I am not sure if it recommends Loctite or not, but will most certainly check). The noise happens to be a persistent click/tick with each revolution of the cranks, sometimes alternating sides with the tick usually occurring as one crank passes top. Pedal are SPD-SLs and have not been serviced but are tight. Long ago, I had a different noise and I suspected the BB. Since the bike was new, the selling LBS serviced the BB. They happened to improperly torque the crank bolts (both were not torqued the same with one visibly not screwed in as far as the other) on the non-drive side resulting in a similar tick to the issue of today, but only on the non-drive side. They did not use loctite which I specifically inquired about. Properly torqueing both crank bolts (with a torque wrench) fixed the improper service and all was well with the world. I have checked the crank bolts as well. Suggestions welcome, but mostly I am interested in whether loctite is recommended with this set up since I might as well add loctite while I am fussing around with the BB.

Thanks again for the assistance.
