Yes, that would work just fine. Many of us purposely ride crappy-looking old bikes as our townies to discourage theft. We've got a significant population of bike thieves locally and zero interest on the part of our dysfunctional law enforcement to do anything about it.

On the bright side, what passes for a criminal here is so lazy we hardly notice what little crime happens. It's mostly small stuff like petty theft.
