After struggling with lower back pain a while back I found the main issue to be my gluteus medius muscle. It was spasming & tightening up so bad I had Sciatica-like symptoms and lower back pain.
I have found that lower core/back stretches and rolling around on a tennis ball gets the knots out and is a huge help.
I think this is a highly overlooked muscle in cyclists. My right one has been hurting lately so I've been reading about. Turns out it can cause all kinds of problems.
