Sounds like our local critical mass night riding group. They're refreshingly counter-Fred. And even though I hadn't cleaned or lubed my chain for a couple of months mine wasn't the squeakiest bike in the pack. No idea about speed, it's not a no-drop group but they try not to leave anyone behind either.

Years ago when I commuted at least 20 miles a day and rode longer rides, crits and time trials whenever possible, I became accustomed to being passed by kids and guys who rode only on weekends or a few times a month. As Dirty Harry said, a man's got to know his limitations. Mine was safely at the back of the pack.
