Ah, so the issue is one of incompetence. Patching 23mm tubes is simple and quick. Can't remember ever having a patch fail. And if 90% of your flats are from a split tube, you're probably installing them wrong.
My thought too as I read the post. I'd go up to 95% of tube splits are the result of the tire not seating right. Patching a tube takes just a few minutes after you find the leak. Plus, I have never had a patch fail (I use Rema patches and glue)
