I have to agree on tools! As a relatively young cyclist, I have saved a ton of money by fixing old bikes and doing all my work myself. I buy mostly cheaper tools with the exception of wrenches and sockets because I have college to save for, but by buying him tools, you can have birthdays figured out for a really long time
