For Shimano, the float, is in part dependent on the cleats. Here is what I've found.

SPD:
SH56 (multirelease) cleats, 0° float
SH51 SPD Cleats, 4° float
SPD-SL:
SH10 Red 0° float
SH12 Blue 2° float
SH11 Yellow 6° float
Personally, I'd use factors such as shoe style to choose between SPD and SPD-SL, rather than simply float.

Thanks, I use SPD at the moment but was thinking of switching as the SLs with their wider cleat are more compatible (or at least more are available) with stacks and wedges which I require with my wonky feet. I didn't want to end up with less float and potentially give myself another problem.

Where'd you find the SPD float info. I was looking on Shimano's site but could only find information on the SL float.
