I had read that as well, but I guess I still had to learn the hard way.

I picked up a stick in the rear wheel of my Rivendell Road last spring. It jammed against the fender stays and seat stays, locking the rear wheel and accordion-ing the rear fender. If I'd had quick release tabs on the rear, the fender may have survived at least. (I skidded safely to a stop, by the way; the fender was the only casualty.)

I replaced the SKS fenders with aluminum VO "hammered" fenders and added the PDW FMF safety tabs to both front and rear.
