You can put an spacer at the driver side... like a 2 mm spacer and then you will have like 2 mm off at the non driver side, not the ideal set up but if you are not anal about things and if the chainline is around ok... dont see why it should not work.
Remember that chainline is just the ideal situation, 1 or 3 mm off is not like a big problem, but if we are talking about 5 mm off well that can be a problem.
If you are building a fix gear or single speed just put a spacer behind the cog to correct the chainline and good to go.
