phorn, I have a Cannondale touring bike with the same chain stay dents, maybe mine are worse. It's my beater bike and has quite often been treated as one, riding unimproved trails without any problems. I do check the stays now and then for peace of mind. I think you would have a less chance of failure than I so I suggest protecting the metal and ride.
