Dunno. I have a ResQLink instead. Mine doesn't use a private corporate satellite network, mine uses the SARSAT network, the same one police, fire, and rescue use. Mine doesn't do messaging, though, it has a panic button and nothing else. Costs about $200, weighs 5 oz, and the battery is good for 5 years, at which point it will probably make more sense to replace the whole unit than the battery. I think the SPOT and InReach cost about the same for the hardware, but you need a monthly plan to use the satellites, and I think they have different levels depending what you use. I bet that recurring payment is what Garmin is after with this.
