I liked [MENTION=55787]tsl[/MENTION]'s post a lot. I wouldn't overlook aluminum frames.

But there's nothing fundamentally wrong with the LHT for long, loaded rides. It's not the right bike for a two mile ride.

For my money, I'd get a steel framed fixed gear with enough room for wider tires. Use a backpack, not panniers. I'd also be out of the saddle sprinting...
