Should point out this is also the 'retirement year' for a lot of racers. A lot of guys in that age range where 4 years out is too much, you either are going to Rio (and subsequently worlds) or you are done. Already know of a couple in their mid/late 20s that retired as soon as they didn't qualify for this year. Of course if you are only 20 or 22 then next olympic cycle is still an option.
Still interesting to see the careers of riders and how they are influenced by olympic cycles. The commitment to race 2020 games started already.

Long time greats Pendleton, Hoy, Jennie Reed, etc... all retired after the last Olympics.
