Schwinn made the Voyageur SP out of a mix of Columbus SL and SP in 1984 and 1985. They were made by Japan by Panasonic- and are one of the finest touring frames ever built, as light as it needs to be and as beefy as it needs to be. It's a great riding bike and a rare one at that.
It may not have the cachet of an Italian race bike, but FWIW, the 1984 models have the paint and the decals that flake off if you look at them too intently!

FYI - Lotus was also making their flag ship tourer, the odyssey, out of SL/SP. With far nicer paint/decals and cool lug engravings.
