Lots of small parts are chrome plated steel , like the bolts .. Maybe you can find substitute bolts and Nuts in stainless steel.

once the base metal starts rusting through the Chrome plate , all you can do is add paint over the reduced rust to make it hide.


Nothing rusts on the Moon because there is no atmosphere containing Oxygen. Rust is oxidized Iron; steel is mostly Iron.
