Presenting the Navin Skyhook.
Neodymium magnets from
K&J
Cord and Tiny cord locks are from
Zpacks. I came up with all kinds of schemes with tricky knots and gluing cord to magnets, but the magnet threaded on the cord and both ends of the line through the cord lock turned out the simplest.
Helmet magnet is R424DIA, diametrically-magnetized. It's their smallest at 1/4" od x 1/8" id x 1/4" thick, but I'm looking for a smaller one.
Eyeglasses magnet is 1/4 long x 1/8 wide x 1/16 thick (B421). I ordered some 1/32" thick (B4201), but they kept shattering when picked up by the helmet magnet.
The glasses magnet is held on with an Xacto-cut sliver of 3M VHB double-sided tape. It's kind of thick, so I'm going to try one of the 1/32" thick magnets with a drop of super glue instead. I've also covered both magnets with electrical tape to make them less conspicuous and to cushion the impact when they mate.
